23S ribosomal RNA (23S rRNA) is a large, essential component of the bacterial ribosome's large subunit (50S). It plays a central role in protein synthesis by forming the peptidyl transferase center (PTC), which catalyzes peptide bond formation during translation. It is also a target for many clinically relevant antibiotics.
