Target intelligence / Profile preview
28S ribosomal protein S30, mitochondrial (MRPS30), is a nuclear-encoded protein functioning as part of the small 28S subunit of the mammalian mitochondrial ribosome. It is structurally similar to the chicken pro-apoptotic protein p52 and plays a key role in mitochondrial protein synthesis. MRPS30 is involved in apoptosis and its altered expression has been implicated in breast cancer pathogenesis and other diseases. The protein is located in the mitochondria and contributes to the unique features of mammalian mitoribosomes, including their higher protein-to-rRNA ratio compared to prokaryotic ribosomes. Genetic studies have associated variants affecting MRPS30 expression with breast cancer susceptibility, particularly in estrogen receptor–positive tumors[1][2][3][4].
