3-hydroxyanthranilate oxidase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase
01

Overview

3-hydroxyanthranilate oxidase is an oxidoreductase enzyme (EC 1.10.3.5) that catalyzes the oxidation of 3-hydroxyanthranilate in the presence of oxygen, forming 6-imino-5-oxocyclohexa-1,3-dienecarboxylate and hydrogen peroxide[4]. It is a rare enzyme, minimally studied in higher organisms, and should not be confused with 3-hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-dioxygenase (EC 1.13.11.6), which is a well-characterized member of the kynurenine pathway with significant biological and therapeutic relevance. The oxidase has little evidence for involvement in human disease, biomarker applications, or as a drug target[4][5].

Other names

02

Mechanism of action

Not established for drugs (no drugs known) Catalyzes: 3-hydroxyanthranilate + O2 → 6-imino-5-oxocyclohexa-1,3-dienecarboxylate + H2O2

03

Biological functions

Tryptophan metabolism (rare step; most organisms use the 3,4-dioxygenase, not the oxidase, at this position)Other
04

Disease associations

Other (no established link to major human or animal diseases; most disease relevance in the kynurenine pathway is attributed to 3-hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-dioxygenase rather than the oxidase)
