30S ribosomal protein S10 is a highly conserved protein that forms part of the small (30S) subunit of the prokaryotic ribosome. It plays a central role in both translation and transcription regulation within bacterial cells. As part of the ribosome, it is essential for accurate mRNA decoding during protein synthesis and tRNA binding. When complexed with NusB (as NusE), it supports rapid transcription and prevents premature termination (antitermination). Mutations within specific regions of S10 are associated with reduced susceptibility to tigecycline, an antibiotic targeting bacterial translation.
