Overview

40S ribosomal protein S11 (RPS11) is a structural protein that forms part of the small (40S) ribosomal subunit, essential for ribosome function and effective mRNA translation during protein synthesis[1][2][3][4]. It belongs to the S17P family of ribosomal proteins and participates in both ribosome assembly and the initial steps of pre-rRNA processing. RPS11 is encoded by the RPS11 gene, located on chromosome 19, and is co-transcribed with the small nucleolar RNA gene U35B. RPS11 has been implicated in disease contexts, notably serving as a prognostic biomarker in glioblastoma, reflecting its importance in cellular viability and resilience in cancer stem cells[1][2]. Disruption of its function can lead to hematologic disorders such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia. RPS11 is not a typical therapeutic target and lacking direct drug interactions but remains of interest due to its role in ribosome integrity and disease biology.
