5-Aminosalicylic Acid (5-ASA)

Target
5-ASA
Molecular classification
Anti-inflammatory drug, Aminosalicylate
01

Overview

5-Aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), also known as mesalamine or mesalazine, is an anti-inflammatory drug primarily used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Its therapeutic effect relies on targeted delivery to the colon, where it exerts local anti-inflammatory actions.
