5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1D pseudogene 1 (HTR1DP1) is a human pseudogene related to the HTR1D gene, which encodes a G protein-coupled serotonin receptor. Unlike the functional HTR1D gene, HTR1DP1 does not encode an active protein. Pseudogenes like HTR1DP1 arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition and typically accumulate disabling mutations that prevent them from producing functional protein products. While some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects at the RNA level (such as acting as miRNA decoys), there is no evidence for such a role specific to HTR1DP1. This pseudogene is not considered a drug target or involved in recognized therapeutic mechanisms[2].
