Overview

The 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 6 (5-HT6 receptor, gene symbol HTR6) is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family that binds serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It is primarily expressed in the brain and plays key roles in modulating neurotransmission and neuronal signaling. Upon binding serotonin or other agonists, it activates Gs proteins which stimulate adenylate cyclase activity, leading to increased intracellular cAMP levels. This signaling cascade influences various downstream effectors involved in neuronal activity. It has been investigated extensively as a drug target for several neuropsychiatric conditions.
