Target intelligence / Profile preview
50S ribosomal protein L16 is an essential component of the large (50S) subunit of prokaryotic ribosomes. It plays a critical role in the structure and function of the ribosome, particularly at the peptidyltransferase center where peptide bond formation occurs during protein synthesis. Mutations in L16 can confer resistance to antibiotics. It is a late assembly component during ribosome maturation.
Inhibition of protein synthesis by disrupting peptidyltransferase activity or tRNA positioning.
