Target intelligence / Profile preview
The 50S ribosomal subunit is the larger component of the 70S ribosome found in prokaryotes. It consists of the 23S rRNA, 5S rRNA, and over 30 ribosomal proteins. This subunit plays a crucial role in protein synthesis, including peptidyl transfer catalysis and mRNA translation. It is also a key target for several classes of antibiotics that inhibit protein synthesis.
Inhibition of protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, interfering with peptidyl transferase activity or tRNA binding.
