Ribosomal protein L3 is a universally conserved and essential component of the large (50S) ribosomal subunit in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It plays a critical role in ribosome assembly, function, and structural integrity. It is essential for forming the peptidyltransferase center (PTC), which catalyzes peptide bond formation during translation. L3 acts as a gatekeeper at the A-site, influencing aminoacyl-tRNA binding and translocation through conformational changes.
