Target intelligence / Profile preview
5S ribosomal RNA (5S rRNA) is a highly conserved, approximately 120-nucleotide non-coding RNA that is a structural and functional component of the large ribosomal subunit in nearly all life forms (except mitochondrial ribosomes of fungi and animals). It participates in ribosome assembly, structural integrity, and possibly in transmitting allosteric signals between different functional centers of the ribosome during translation. While absolutely essential for cellular viability and the process of protein synthesis, it is not a drug target or disease gene itself.
