5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 125 (RNA5SP125) is a member of the pseudogene family, derived from the canonical 5S ribosomal RNA, a structural RNA component of the large subunit of the ribosome involved in protein synthesis[1][3]. As a pseudogene, RNA5SP125 does not encode a functional product and is not directly involved in canonical ribosomal function. Pseudogenes can, however, sometimes be transcribed; in some cases, pseudogene expression has been implicated in regulatory roles or as disease biomarkers, especially in cancer, through mechanisms such as acting as long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) or competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs)[2]. There is no evidence suggesting RNA5SP125 functions as an actionable drug target, receptor, enzyme, or other typical therapeutic target class.
