5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 154 (RNA5SP154) is a non-coding genomic element classified as a pseudogene of 5S ribosomal RNA. Pseudogenes arise from previously functional genes that have lost their coding capacity or functionality due to mutations during evolution. RNA5SP154 structurally resembles bona fide 5S rRNA, an important component of the large ribosomal subunit involved in the structure and function of the ribosome, but RNA5SP154 itself does not contribute to ribosome structure or translation. While some rRNA pseudogenes can be transcribed and may exert subtle regulatory roles (e.g., serving as antisense RNA or miRNA decoys), there is no evidence that RNA5SP154 has any direct function or disease association. It is not considered a therapeutic, pharmacological, or diagnostic target, and it is not known to interact with drugs.
