5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 185 (RNA5SP185) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that originated from the duplication of a functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene followed by subsequent mutational inactivation[5][4]. Like other rRNA pseudogenes, RNA5SP185 does not encode a functional ribosomal RNA product and is predicted to be non-functional in ribosome assembly or protein synthesis. However, emerging studies report that transcripts from 5S rRNA pseudogenes, including members of the RNA5SP family, can be aberrantly expressed and may play context-specific regulatory roles—for example, influencing interferon (IFN) signaling in liver disease[6]. There is no evidence that this pseudogene serves as a classical therapeutic target, nor is it a member of any druggable protein families. Its principal scientific relevance is as a non-coding genomic element and, in some cases, a potential disease-associated RNA biomarker.
