5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 224 is a processed pseudogene related to the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene. While functional 5S rRNA is a crucial structural and functional component of the large ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[1][3][5], pseudogenes such as RNA5SP224 are generally considered non-functional remnants arising from genome duplication, retrotransposition, or mutation events[2][6]. These pseudogenes lack the ability to encode functional RNA components or proteins and are not considered therapeutic targets. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed and might modulate gene regulation through RNA-based mechanisms, there is no evidence that RNA5SP224 has such a role[6]. There is also no information supporting any direct disease involvement, biomarker utility, or drug interactions for this pseudogene.
