5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 252 (RNA5SP252) is a pseudogene corresponding to 5S ribosomal RNA in the human genome. Pseudogenes are gene sequences that resemble functional genes but are typically non-functional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements necessary for expression. The canonical 5S ribosomal RNA is an essential component of the large subunit of the ribosome and is involved in the structural and functional integrity of the ribosome[1][3]. However, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP252 do not encode functional RNA and are not translated into proteins or functional ribosomal components[4]. There is no evidence in the literature that RNA5SP252 acts as a direct therapeutic target, nor is it associated with disease, drug interactions, biomarker use, or safety concerns. The gene appears in genome databases as an annotated pseudogene with no known active biological or disease role. It is not to be confused with functional 5S ribosomal RNA genes or with transcribed pseudogenes like RPSAP52, which can play regulatory roles in cancer, but are unrelated to RNA5SP252[2][4].
