Target intelligence / Profile preview
5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 275, also known as RNA5SP275, is classified as a non-functional copy (pseudogene) of the 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normally functioning genes but are noncoding and generally lack biological activity due to mutations or loss of regulatory elements[4][2]. The native 5S rRNA gene encodes a 120-nucleotide RNA that is a critical structural component of the large ribosomal subunit, required for normal protein synthesis in eukaryotes and prokaryotes[3][1]. However, pseudogenes like RNA5SP275 have lost this function. Most pseudogenes do not produce functional RNA or protein products, but a subset can be transcribed as noncoding RNAs with potential regulatory roles, such as competing for microRNA binding (ceRNA activity)[4]. The majority of 5S rRNA pseudogenes do not have characterized disease links, drug interactions, or utility as biomarkers or therapeutic targets. Their presence does not generally indicate therapeutic relevance. RNA5SP275 is best described as a pseudogene of 5S ribosomal RNA, not a therapeutic target. It has no documented role as a drug target, disease marker, or participant in major biological pathways. There is no evidence of direct interaction with drugs or therapeutic safety issues. Most 5S rRNA pseudogenes, including RNA5SP275, are non-functional and unassociated with disease or therapy[4][2].
