Overview

5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 324 (RNA5SP324) is a non-functional genomic sequence similar to the 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Pseudogenes arise by duplication or retrotransposition and typically accumulate mutations that disrupt their coding or functional capacity[2][4]. “rRNA pseudogenes” are sequences that closely resemble ribosomal RNA genes but no longer produce functional rRNA. Some pseudogenes can be transcribed and, in rare cases, have regulatory roles through the production of non-coding RNAs that interact with microRNAs, RNA-binding proteins, or parental gene transcripts, but there is no evidence that RNA5SP324 encodes a functional RNA or protein or is a validated molecular drug target[2][4].
