Overview

5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 351 (RNA5SP351) is a non-functional duplicate of the gene encoding 5S ribosomal RNA, classified as a processed pseudogene[2][6]. Unlike functional 5S ribosomal RNA, which is a structural component of the ribosome involved in protein synthesis[3][1][5], the RNA5SP351 pseudogene does not produce a functional 5S rRNA molecule or any protein. In general, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP351 are considered genomic relics and do not participate directly in biological processes. However, in rare cases, some pseudogenes have been implicated in gene regulation as sources of noncoding RNAs or microRNA decoys[2][4]. There is currently no evidence that RNA5SP351 itself plays a role in disease, interacts with drugs, or serves as a biomarker.
