5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 37 (abbreviated as RNA5SP37), also known as RN5S37, belongs to the class of ribosomal RNA pseudogenes. Pseudogenes are genomic loci that resemble protein-coding genes or functional RNAs but are generally considered nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements required for expression[2]. Unlike functional 5S ribosomal RNA, which is a critical structural and functional component of the ribosome required for protein synthesis[1][3][4], RNA5SP37 does not appear to be expressed or to encode a functional product. There is currently no evidence that RNA5SP37 is used as a drug target, biomarker, or has any established physiological, pathological, or therapeutic relevance. Most pseudogenes, including ribosomal RNA pseudogenes, are considered non-coding "genomic fossils" and are not assigned roles in cell function[2]. A small fraction of pseudogenes can occasionally have regulatory roles, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs, but there is no evidence supporting such a function for RNA5SP37. In summary, RNA5SP37 is a non-functional pseudogene without known biological activity, disease association, or therapeutic potential.
