5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 371 (RNA5SP371) is classified as a pseudogene of the 5S ribosomal RNA (5S rRNA) gene family. While the canonical 5S rRNA is an essential structural and functional RNA molecule that is part of the large ribosomal subunit and facilitates communication between the functional centers of the ribosome[1][3][5], RNA5SP371 itself is a non-functional or non-coding processed pseudogene copy. Pseudogenes such as RNA5SP371 are typically the result of retrotransposition or genomic duplication events and lack the elements required for active transcription or functional RNA biogenesis[6]. They are not known to participate directly in ribosome biogenesis, protein synthesis, or therapeutic modulation, and are not considered therapeutic drug targets. Although some pseudogenes in general may exert regulatory roles or be implicated in diseases as RNA species, there are no data indicating that RNA5SP371 is involved in such biological or disease-associated processes. Given this, RNA5SP371 should not be considered a molecular target for drugs or biomarker assays. If a functional 5S rRNA target is intended, further specification is needed.
