5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 458 (RNA5SP458) is a pseudogene—a genomic sequence that resembles a functional gene (here, 5S ribosomal RNA, itself a fundamental structural RNA in the ribosome) but is non-functional due to sequence changes or lack of transcription/expression[2][3][6]. Unlike canonical 5S rRNA genes, which are transcribed and incorporated into ribosomes of the large subunit to participate in protein synthesis, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP458 do not encode active RNA products and are generally considered genomic "fossils."[6][4] As such, RNA5SP458 is *not* a therapeutic, pharmacological, or diagnostic target, and it has no recorded involvement with drugs, biomarker panels, or safety issues. Its presence is primarily of interest for studies of ribosomal gene evolution, genomic architecture, or pseudogene transcriptomics, but not for medical, therapeutic, or classical biological function[3][4][6].
