5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 522 is a member of a large family of 5S rRNA pseudogenes in the human genome. Unlike functional 5S rRNA genes, which encode an essential structural component of the ribosome involved in protein synthesis, this pseudogene is a non-functional DNA sequence thought to arise by retrotransposition or duplication events. It does not produce a functional RNA or protein product and has no known regulatory or physiological role. It is not a therapeutic target, does not interact with drugs, and is not implicated in disease processes, making its biomedical relevance negligible. Pseudogenes like this are often studied only in the context of genome evolution or non-coding DNA analysis. The inclusion of "pseudogene" in the name confirms that it is not an active molecular target or receptor.
