5S ribosomal RNA pseudogene 97 (RNA5SP97) belongs to the family of 5S ribosomal RNA pseudogenes, non-functional genomic elements derived from the transposition or duplication of the functional 5S ribosomal RNA gene. Unlike the functional 5S rRNA, which is a structural and catalytic component of the large ribosomal subunit, pseudogenes such as RNA5SP97 typically do not produce functional RNA molecules and are not involved in ribosome biogenesis or function[1][2][7]. While certain 5S rRNA pseudogene transcripts (e.g., RNA5SP141) may become expressed and participate in innate immunity during viral infection[4], there is no experimental evidence or literature supporting a biological or therapeutic role for RNA5SP97 itself. Additionally, pseudogenes are generally not considered drug targets and do not participate in canonical signaling, enzyme, or transporter functions.
