Overview

60S ribosomal protein L10 (RPL10) is a highly conserved structural component of the large (60S) subunit of the eukaryotic ribosome, encoded by the RPL10 gene on the X chromosome. RPL10 is critical for the final stages of ribosome biogenesis, translation control, and actively participates in the formation and function of translating ribosomes. Beyond its essential role in protein synthesis, RPL10 has additional extra-ribosomal functions, including regulation of cell proliferation, migration, apoptosis, and signal transduction—especially via interaction with transcription factors such as c-Jun and the NF-κB pathway. Aberrant expression and mutation of RPL10 have been implicated in multiple human diseases, notably ovarian and prostate cancer, T-cell leukemia, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism. Although its essential cellular role makes it a challenging direct drug target, RPL10 is increasingly studied as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in oncology.
