Overview

60S ribosomal protein L10-like (RPL10L) is a protein encoded by the *RPL10L* gene in humans and is located on chromosome 14[3]. RPL10L shows high sequence similarity to ribosomal protein L10 (RPL10), a well-characterized component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit[1]. The *RPL10L* gene is intronless and may have arisen through retro-transposition as a potential compensatory gene during spermatogenesis, with expression reported as testis-specific in studies of RPL10L[1][3]. Unlike RPL10, which is critical for ribosome biogenesis and has clear links to both normal physiology and disease (including cancer and ribosomopathies)[1][5], it is currently unknown whether RPL10L serves as a functional ribosomal protein in humans or if it possesses any independent biological activity; there are no established disease associations, molecular interactions, or roles as a therapeutic target[3].
