Overview

60S ribosomal protein L10a (RPL10A) is a highly conserved structural protein that forms part of the large (60S) subunit of the eukaryotic ribosome, primarily responsible for catalyzing protein synthesis in the cytoplasm[1][3][5][7]. It is a member of the L1P family of ribosomal proteins[1][3][5]. Its gene expression can be modulated by specific drugs (e.g., cyclosporin-A) and during development[1][3]. RPL10A is not considered a classic therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.) but is essential for translation and cell viability. Disruption of its function causes defects in cell and organismal development, including anemia due to effects on erythropoiesis in animal models[2], but at present, no approved drugs specifically target RPL10A and there is no known clinical use as a biomarker or therapeutic target in humans. The Ensembl gene ENSG00000213172 does not correspond to RPL10A in humans; the correct Ensembl ID is ENSG00000198755[3].
