60S ribosomal protein L18 (RPL18)

60S ribosomal protein L18 (RPL18) is a structural protein component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit in eukaryotic cells, crucial for protein synthesis as part of the ribosome complex. It is encoded by the RPL18 gene on chromosome 19, belongs to the L18E family of ribosomal proteins, and is found in the cytoplasm. Like other ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of RPL18 scattered throughout the genome. Mutations in RPL18 have been associated with Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a rare congenital red cell aplasia[1][2][3][4][5][6].
