Overview

60S ribosomal protein L27a (RPL27A) is a structural protein component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit in eukaryotic cells[1][3][5]. It belongs to the L15P family of ribosomal proteins and plays an essential role in protein synthesis as part of the ribosome complex, facilitating peptide chain elongation[1][3]. RPL27A is expressed in the cytoplasm and is required for cellular growth and protein translation. Altered expression of this gene has been observed in colorectal cancer tissues, though there is no established correlation with disease progression[1][3]. Mutations in RPL27A are also implicated in some rare inherited diseases, such as congenital disorders of glycosylation and cone-rod dystrophy[3]. There is currently no evidence that RPL27A serves as a direct therapeutic target, interacts with any approved drugs, or acts as a biomarker in clinical settings[3][5].
