Overview

60S ribosomal protein L37a is a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit in human cells, essential for ribosome structure and function. It belongs to the L37AE family and contains a C4-type zinc finger-like domain, localizing in the cytoplasm as part of the ribosome. The protein is involved in translation and has processed pseudogenes throughout the genome as is typical for ribosomal proteins. Mutation or altered expression may be associated with diseases such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia and certain cancers. However, it is primarily classified as a housekeeping, structural protein and is not a conventional therapeutic target.
