Target intelligence / Profile preview
The 70 kDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase (p70S6K or S6K1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a central role in cell growth, proliferation, and metabolism. It is activated primarily via the PI3K/mTOR pathway and phosphorylates the ribosomal protein S6, enhancing translation of mRNAs involved in protein synthesis machinery. Dysregulation of p70S6K is implicated in cancer, obesity, diabetes, and aging, making it a therapeutic target and a biomarker for mTOR inhibitor response.
Phosphorylation of ribosomal protein S6 and eIF4B, promoting translation of mRNAs with a 5'TOP motif; activation downstream of the PI3K/mTOR pathway.
