Overview

GRP78 (also known as BiP or HSPA5) is a key ER-resident chaperone protein involved in protein folding, assembly, and degradation. It plays a crucial role in regulating the unfolded protein response (UPR) and is essential for maintaining cellular proteostasis, particularly under stress conditions. Its overexpression on tumor cell surfaces makes it an attractive therapeutic target for cancer, while it also contributes to the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy and cardiac hypertrophy.
