7SK small nuclear RNA pseudogene 44 (RN7SKP44) is a non-functional pseudogene related to the 7SK small nuclear RNA gene family. The 7SK small nuclear RNA (encoded by RN7SK) is an abundant, highly conserved noncoding RNA found in metazoan cells, critical for regulating RNA polymerase II (Pol II) transcription elongation by controlling positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb) and playing a role in the regulation of gene expression and cell cycle. However, as a pseudogene, RN7SKP44 does not produce a functional RNA product and lacks any confirmed biological or therapeutic role.
