7SL RNA pseudogenes, such as RN7SL246P, are genomic DNA sequences that share similarity with the functional 7SL RNA gene but generally do not produce functional RNA or protein products[3][5]. The parent molecule, 7SL RNA, is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), crucial for directing nascent proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation[1]. Pseudogenes arise via genomic duplication, retrotransposition, or incomplete reverse transcription events, and are often non-functional due to truncations, mutations, or lack of necessary regulatory elements[3][5]. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed, most—including RN7SL pseudogenes—have no known direct biological function or therapeutic relevance. Nevertheless, select pseudogenes in other gene families have been shown to regulate parent gene expression post-transcriptionally or act as molecular decoys, but there is currently no evidence for such a regulatory role for RN7SL246P or any specific 7SL RNA pseudogene in humans[4]. RN7SL246P is a pseudogene of 7SL RNA and should not be considered a classical therapeutic target, nor does it have established functional or disease roles in the current scientific literature[3][5].
