A33 Antigen (A33)

Target
A33
Molecular classification
Immunoglobulin Superfamily (IgSF), Transmembrane Glycoprotein
01

Overview

The A33 antigen is a transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is primarily expressed in the epithelium of the small intestine and colon, and is overexpressed in the majority of human colon cancers, making it a target for cancer immunotherapy. In viral contexts, A33 controls the incorporation of A36 into the EEV (extracellular enveloped virus) particle and is crucial for effective cell-to-cell spread.

02

Mechanism of action

Antibody-mediated targeting of A33-expressing cells, leading to cell death or inhibition of proliferation. Neutralization of viral entry/spread.
