AarF domain containing kinase 5 (ADCK5) is a member of the atypical aarF domain-containing kinase family located on human chromosome 8q24.3. It is predicted to function as a serine/threonine kinase and is localized to mitochondria. ADCK5 participates in the regulation of mitochondrial integrity, cellular metabolism, and maintains cellular homeostasis, possibly affecting mitochondrial energy production and cell signaling. Emerging research implicates ADCK5 in the invasion and migration of lung cancer cells, primarily through phosphorylation of the transcription factor SOX9 and upregulation of oncogenic PTTG1. While its precise biological functions and substrates remain incompletely defined, ADCK5 has disease associations spanning cancer and metabolic syndromes, making it a potential but underexplored therapeutic target.
