Target intelligence / Profile preview
ABL1 encodes a non-receptor tyrosine kinase involved in various cellular processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, and DNA repair. It is a proto-oncogene that can drive malignant transformation when mutated or aberrantly activated, most notably through the t(9;22) translocation forming the BCR-ABL fusion gene in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). ABL1 and BCR-ABL are therapeutic targets for tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
