Abelson Murine Leukemia Viral Oncogene Homolog Protein Tyrosine Kinase (Abl)

Target
Abl
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Protein Kinase, Tyrosine Kinase
01

Overview

Abl is a non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase encoded by the *ABL1* gene in humans. It is ubiquitously expressed and found in both the cytoplasm and nucleus of cells. The protein plays critical roles in regulating cell differentiation, division, adhesion, stress response (including DNA repair), and cytoskeletal remodeling. Its activity is tightly regulated by autoinhibitory domains and post-translational modifications. Dysregulation of Abl, particularly through the BCR-Abl fusion in CML, makes it a key therapeutic target.
