ABHD17A pseudogene 5 (ABHD17AP5) is a pseudogene locus in the FAM108 family located within the immunoglobulin lambda gene cluster in the human genome. As a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional protein and is not implicated as a molecular target for drugs or as a disease biomarker. There is no reported biological function, regulatory role, or disease association for ABHD17AP5, and it should not be confused with ABHD17A, which is a protein-coding gene encoding a depalmitoylase enzyme. Important note: Pseudogenes like ABHD17AP5 typically do not have molecular targeting relevance, though in rare cases pseudogenes can influence regulation of their parent genes or participate in gene regulation (for example, as competitive endogenous RNAs), but there is no evidence this is the case for ABHD17AP5.
