Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes such as ABHD17AP9 do not produce a functional protein product and generally do not serve as direct therapeutic targets. While some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles, there is no evidence that ABHD17AP9 encodes a functional peptide, nor that it has recognized biological, pharmacological, or disease relevance[3][7][6]. It is related to, but distinct from, ABHD17A, which is a depalmitoylase enzyme implicated in protein regulation at the plasma membrane and signaling in cancer[5][4][2]. However, ABHD17AP9 itself should not be considered a drug target or functional molecule. This entry appears to be incorrect as a pharmacological target: it is a pseudogene, not a viable therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter. If the intention was to reference the functional enzyme, the correct target would be "Abhydrolase domain-containing protein 17A (ABHD17A)"[4][5].
