Overview

Abhydrolase domain containing 13 (ABHD13) is an enzyme belonging to the alpha/beta hydrolase domain-containing family. It is predicted to enable palmitoyl-(protein) hydrolase activity and is involved in protein depalmitoylation and lipid metabolic processes. ABHD13 is found in membranes and may serve a link between lipid metabolism and immune regulatory pathways, based on genetic and transcriptomic association studies. Variants in ABHD13 have been correlated with altered IgE immune responses to helminth infection and show differential expression linked to metabolic traits in animal studies. Its specific physiological roles and biochemical activities remain under-characterized, and there is currently insufficient evidence to consider ABHD13 a direct therapeutic target. ABHD13 is a protein-coding gene with potential roles in lipid metabolism and immune response modulation, but it is not an established or direct therapeutic target at present. It is classified as an enzyme of the alpha/beta hydrolase family and is also known by several aliases in the literature. Its clinical relevance remains limited to genetic association and research contexts rather than direct pharmacological intervention.
