ABI family member 3 (ABI3)

Target
ABI3
Molecular classification
Adaptor protein, Intracellular signaling molecule, Component of the Abi/WAVE complex
01

Overview

ABI family member 3 (ABI3) is a protein-coding gene encoding an adaptor protein characterized by a homeobox homology domain, a proline-rich region, and a Src-homology 3 (SH3) domain. It is a critical component of the Abi/WAVE complex, which regulates actin polymerization and subsequently influences cell motility and migration. ABI3 is notable for its putative role as a tumor metastasis inhibitor, reducing both cell migration and metastatic potential in vitro, potentially through interactions with p21-activated kinase. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing. While associated with certain cancer types and innate immune responses, ABI3 is not a receptor, enzyme, or well-characterized therapeutic target in drug discovery.
