AIM2 is a cytosolic sensor protein that detects double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) and initiates inflammatory responses. It forms the AIM2 inflammasome, activating caspase-1 and processing pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. AIM2 also regulates regulatory T cell stability and can act as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway.
AIM2 binds to cytosolic dsDNA, leading to inflammasome formation, caspase-1 activation, and subsequent maturation of IL-1β and IL-18. In cancer, AIM2 inhibits PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling.
