Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2

Molecular classification
Peptide
01

Overview

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2 is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ac-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr-OH, designed as a bioactive cosmetic ingredient to combat skin sagging and loss of firmness. It enhances the assembly of elastin and collagens by inducing expression of proteins like Fibulin 5 and Lysyl Oxidase-Like 1, which organize elastic fibers, while also upregulating genes for cellular cohesion such as talin, zyxin, and integrins. The peptide promotes synthesis of elastin and collagen I, stimulates keratinocyte activity, and supports skin regeneration, making it particularly useful for mature skin to restore elasticity, density, and contour definition. In cosmetic formulations, it is used at low concentrations (0.002–0.005%) in products like serums and creams, incorporated at temperatures below 45°C for stability. No established role in disease treatment exists, as it is primarily a non-therapeutic skincare agent with a good safety profile, though patch testing is advised for sensitive individuals.
