Target intelligence / Profile preview
The acetylcholine synthesis pathway is the biochemical process by which the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) is produced. This involves the uptake of choline, synthesis of acetyl-CoA, the ChAT-catalyzed reaction of choline and acetyl-CoA to form ACh, and the packaging of ACh into vesicles. Regulation occurs at multiple levels, primarily through choline availability and ChAT activity. Dysfunction of this pathway is implicated in several neurological disorders.
N/A - This is a pathway, not a single target. Drugs interact with specific enzymes or transporters within the pathway.
