Overview

ACOT4 pseudogene 1 (ACOT4P1) is an intronless pseudogene located on human chromosome 19q13.12, with 91% sequence identity to the functional ACOT4 gene on chromosome 14. This pseudogene lacks introns and contains several in-frame stop codons, so it is incapable of encoding a functional protein. While low-level expression of ACOT4P1 has been observed at the RNA level in a range of tissues (e.g., pancreatic islets, brain, placenta), there is no direct evidence for a protein product. Its precise biological function is unknown, but by analogy to other pseudogenes (e.g., Makorin 1-p1), it may possess a regulatory role affecting the expression of the functional ACOT4 gene, possibly at the transcript level. However, there is currently no evidence for a direct disease involvement or therapeutic targeting of ACOT4P1. The phrase “ACOT4 pseudogene 1 (ACOT4P1)” refers to a pseudogene—by definition, not a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or functional protein. It is not a direct target for drugs. Although its RNA may be detected and correlates with some biological phenomena, no functional protein or drug interactions are reported. Therefore, querying this entity as a “therapeutic target” is incorrect.
