Overview

Acrosin pseudogene 1 (ACRP1) is a human pseudogene related to the acrosin gene, which encodes a serine protease involved in sperm penetration of the zona pellucida[2]. ACRP1 itself represents a non-functional genomic sequence that may be transcribed but does not generate a functional protein. Pseudogenes like ACRP1 can sometimes influence cellular biology as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), affecting regulation by sponging microRNAs, but there is no reported evidence that ACRP1 plays a significant regulatory or disease-related role[1][3]. It is not considered a molecular target for therapeutic intervention and is generally omitted from targetable gene/protein lists.
