Overview

KIAA1210 is a novel, X-chromosome-linked protein predominantly expressed in the testis, especially in the acrosome, sex body of spermatocytes, and near the ectoplasmic specializations of Sertoli cells. It possesses several protein domains, including a topoisomerase 2 (TOP2)-associated PAT1 domain, a herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) UL36-like domain, and a putative DNA translocase FtsK domain. These domains, as well as mass spectrometry and co-immunoprecipitation data, suggest KIAA1210 forms complexes with topoisomerase II isoforms (notably TOP2B), implicating it in chromatin structure regulation during spermatogenesis[1][2][3]. In addition to its key role in male germ cell development and sperm morphogenesis, its expression pattern and epigenetic changes have linked it to certain cancers, such as prostate cancer (where it may act as a tumor-suppressor) and as a potential methylation biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma risk[2]. There is no evidence it is a current drug target, no known interacting drugs, and its primary clinical relevance is as a biomarker and as a contributor to reproductive pathology.
