Overview

ACTB pseudogene 1 is a processed pseudogene related to the gene encoding beta-actin (ACTB), a highly conserved cytoskeletal protein involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity[4]. Unlike the functional ACTB gene, ACTB pseudogene 1 does not encode a protein and is not biologically active as an enzyme, receptor, or structural protein. Numerous ACTB-related pseudogenes exist throughout the human genome as the result of recent evolutionary events, and these pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional, lacking regulatory elements and/or containing disruptive mutations that prevent protein translation[4]. There is no evidence that ACTB pseudogene 1 acts as a therapeutic target or plays a known role in disease, nor are there any validated drugs, diagnostic biomarkers, or safety concerns associated directly with this pseudogene. Its primary significance is in comparative genomics, genome annotation, and sometimes as a source of confusion with the functional ACTB gene. Key clarification: - ACTB pseudogene 1 (ACTBP1) is not the same as the functional beta-actin gene (ACTB)[4][6]. - There is no known protein product, biological function, or therapeutic relevance for ACTBP1[4][6]. - The listing of this gene as a target is incorrect for drug discovery or clinical research contexts[4][6].
